Course Description


This is the standard EMDRIA-approved EMDR Basic Training. Tuition includes two 3-day training sessions and 10 consultation hours. Students who enroll in this course will be able to practice EMDR with clients after the first training.

Learning Objectives

Part 1

  • Identify 3 aspects of the AIP Model for effective case conceptualization and treatment planning
  • Demonstrate and name the 8 phases of EMDR therapy for comprehensive treatment
  • Identify essential aspects of preparing a client for EMDR Therapy
  • Recognize special client needs that need additional support
  • Identify the criteria for client readiness
  • Explain the relational and holistic elements of EMDR Therapy
  • Explain the 3-Prong Approach and know how to use it for comprehensive targeting
  • Identify the purpose of utilizing the SUD scale and the VOC scale
  • Recognize therapy-interfering beliefs that may need to be addressed in order for treatment to proceed
  • Practice how to stabilize a client with Safe/Calm Place

Part 2

  • Identify strategies for working with abreactions
  • Explain and apply comprehensive EMDR treatment plans
  • Analyze clinical symptoms that may indicate the need to assess for dissociation
  • Explain and compare the different categories of resources
  • Identify when to use specialty protocols
  • Identify when to use cognitive interweaves and other clinical interventions during EMDR processing
  • Identify when the Recent Events Protocol would be appropriate as an intervention
  • Identify 3 differences in applying EMDR therapy to working with children
  • Practice the full 8 Phase EMDR Therapy Protocol
  • Practice specialty protocols and cognitive interweaves


Additional Information

  • This training is intended for licensed or pre-licensed counselors and therapists who work directly with clients. Graduate students in a licensure track mental health-related degree program are also eligible if practicing under a licensed supervisor within the practicum or internship phase of their program. 
  • No previous EMDR experience is necessary
  • Participants who need to cancel their reservations are entitled to a full refund, provided they cancel and request the refund at least seven days before the first training
  • Participants must be available for both training weekends as they cannot be rescheduled. 
  • Participants who begin the EMDR training must complete the entire training within 12 months from their initial start date 
  • 10 hours of consultation are required in order to complete the EMDR training. These hours are included in the registration fee and will occur roughly halfway between the first and second trainings
